The region was photographed by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47), ANARE (1956 and 1962) and the Soviet Antarctic Expedition (1956). It was included in a survey of the Swain Group carried out by C.R. Eklund, scientific leader at Wilkes in 1957. Named by USACAN.
